SD North was cited for three awards at the (virtual) District 5340 Governor's Celebration June29th.  It achieved the "Every Rotarian, Every Year" and the "100% Foundation Giving" clubs (EREY for 9 or 10 years in a row!) in recognition of its members giving to the Rotary Foundation.  The club was also awarded the RI Presidential Distinction Citation (PLATINUM level) for numerous service projects and activities projects throughout the 2019-2020 year.  It's amazing what 9 dedicated Rotarians can accomplish!
Doug Kearnaghen Memorial Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate academic achievement and superior "Service Above Self". SD North is proud to announce this year's winners from Mt. Carmel High School:  Danielle Lund and Jeffrey Purchatzke.  Dani plans to attend Grand Canyon University and Jeff is starting at UCLA. President Bryan Gust presented their certificates and awards remotely (doggone COVID!)
The Rotary Dog Walk that was originally scheduled for May of 2020 has now been postponed. Currently the postponed date is to be determined. Please check our website and social media pages for updates regarding the rescheduling.
SD North Rotary Club held its 32nd Annual Rotary Cross Country Fun Run at Mt. Carmel High School Stadium Friday, November 8th for 600 3rd through 8th grade runners. Almost all of the elementary and middle schools in the Poway Unified School District Counting parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends, well over a thousand onlookers gathered to view the races. The FUN RUN has been a huge success with over 1500 participants over the years. Fun Fact: children of the original participants are now taking part in this yearly event! Plaques were awarded for boys and girls by grade level. Painted Rock won the elementary boys and girls sweepstakes. Twin Peaks won the Middle school division. Place ribbons were awarded to the first ten finishers in each race.
The 32nd Annual Rotary Fun Run will be held on Friday, November 8, 2019, at Mt. Carmel High School.  Runners from grades 3 through 5 will run a one mile long course and grades 6 through 8 will be challenged by a 1.8 mile long course.  All races will start and end in the stadium and the courses are totally on the high school property.  The last few years have seen well in excess of 800 runners participate.  All runners get a ribbon marking the event, and special ribbons will be given to the top ten finishers.  Per-event registration is encouraged but runners can sign up the day of the race.  Contact Jean Heinz for additional information at jean@heinzfeinberg.com or (619) 238-5454.
San Diego North Rotary will partner with Poway - Scripps Rotary to run the first annual Rotary Dog Walk in May 2020.  The event will be held at Penasquitos Creek Park and Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve and will feature both a 5K and a 3K trail for dogs of all sizes and shapes, along with their owners on the other end of a leash.  Project details will be developed by a joint steering committee, and will be provided on this web site as they become available.
